A man was arrested today by police investigating the Real IRA murders of two soldiers who were gunned down at the gates of Massereene Barracks in Antrim in March.  The 47-year-old was detained in Belfast and taken to the PSNI’s serious crime suite in Antrim, said a police spokesman.

Leading dissident republican Colin Duffy, 41, from Lurgan, Co Armagh, has been charged with the murders. A second man, cystic fibrosis sufferer Brian Shivers, 44, from Magherafelt, Co Derry, has also been charged with the killings. He was granted bail because of his condition.

The soldiers were the first to be murdered in the North in 12 years, and their deaths were followed two days later by the Continuity IRA murder of Pc Stephen Carroll in Craigavon. He was the first policeman to be murdered in the North since 1998. (BN.ie)

Un uomo è stato arrestato oggi dalla polizia che sta investigando sull’uccisione di due soldati, da parte di Real IRA,  davanti all’ingresso della Caserma di Massereene nella Contea di Antrim a marzo. Il 47enne è stato arrestato a Belfast, ha detto un portavoce della polizia.

Il leader dei dissidenti repubblicani Colin Duffy, 41 anni di Lurgan (Contea di Armagh), è stato accusato degli omicidi. Un secondo uomo, Brian Shivers, 44enne di Magherafelt (Contea di Derry) che soffre di fibrosi cistica, è accusato degli stessi reati. E’ a piede libero per le sue condizioni di salute.

Erano dodici anni che soldati britannici non venivano uccisi in Irlanda del Nord. La loro morte è stata seguita, due giorni dopo, dall’uccisione, da parte del Continuity IRA, dall’agente di polizia Stephen Carroll a Craigavon. Ed era dal 1998 che un poliziotto non veniva ucciso nel Nord Irlanda.
