A Derry’s clergyman has branded Halloween Carnival as “Satanic”. Rev Jonathan Campbell, of Newbuildings Independent Methodist Church, has launched an online petition calling on Derry City Council to ban the Banks of the Foyle Halloween festival – widely regarded as the biggest festival of its kind in Europe and a massive genaerator of revenue for the local economy – because it makes ” evil look innocent.” “Christians believe that evil is a real but defeated power,” he says. “Halloween, however, is about evil triumphant, therefore it is a distortion of reality.The carnival brings a curse upon the city.”

The petition calls upon “Derry City Council to stop the annual Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival which makes evil look innocent. The word of God clearly prohibits any involvement in or support for the occult – Leviticus 19:31 ‘Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God’.”

A spokeswoman for Derry City Council says:  “The Council has an events team in place to ensure that the annual Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival celebrations is a success for the city. The main focus of our celebrations is on the family and a range of activities have been programmed specifically for families”.  (Derry Journal)

Un prete di Derry ha bollato la festa di Halloween come “satanica”. Il reverendo  Jonathan Campbell, appartenente a una chiesa metodista indipendente, ha lanciato una petizione on line, chiedendo al Consiglio Comunale di mettere al bando il Banks of the Foyle Halloween festival – ampiamente riconosciuto come il più grande festival del genere in Europa e come importante risorsa per le entrate dell’economia locale – perché fa sembrare “innocente” la malvagità. “I cristiani – ha spiegato Campbell – credono che il male sia reale, ma che non vincerà. Halloween, invece, rappresenta la vittoria del male, quindi è una distorsione della realtà: questo carnevale porta una maledizione sulla città”.

La petizione lancia un appello al “Consiglio Comunale di Derry per fermare l’annuale Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival, che fa sembrare il male come innocente. La parola di Dio proibisce categoricamente ogni contatto o supporto all’occulto – Levitico 19:31 ‘ Non rivolgetevi agli spiriti familiari o agli indovini, rendendovi impuri con essi: Io sono il Signore tuo Dio”.

Un portavoce del Consiglio Comunale ha già risposto: “Il Consiglio di Derry ha un gruppo di lavoro per far sì che il Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival sia un’opportunità per tutta la città. La parte portante della manifestazione è dedicata alle famiglie, e ci sono tutta una serie di attività organizzate specificamente per esse”.
