Pescatore della Cornovaglia distribuisce pesce fresco per protestare contro le quote-pesca europee
Mick Mahon, da Newlyn, ha dichiarato di aver preso centinaia di chili di eglefini in più di quelli permessi dalla legislazione.
E’ preoccupato di essere perseguito, ma preferisce far mangiare questo ottimo pesce piuttosto che sbarazzarsene.
Secondo le regole UE i pescatori dovrebbero rigettare in mare il pescato oltre le quote.
Mahon rischia una multa fino a 50mila sterline e di perdere la licenza per non aver ributtato in mare il pesce: “Sono preoccupato, ovviamente, ma sono anche parecchio arrabbiato”.
“Mi sento tradito dai nostri politici”, ha detto.
“In questo paese abbiamo i banchi di pesce più grandi del mondo intorno alle nostre coste, ma abbiamo un’industria peschiera sull’orlo del collasso”.
Jim Portus, della South West Fish Producers’ Organisation, ha dichiarato che benché Mahon non sia un membro dell’organizzazione, gli esprime la massima solidarietà nei confronti della sua protesta.
Portus ha dichiarato che le quote-pesca sono per tutti il “pomo della discordia”.

Mick Mahon, who sails from Newlyn, said he had been catching hundreds of kilograms of haddock more than he is allowed by legislation to land.
He said he is worried he might be prosecuted but he is fed up with having to get rid of “good” fish.
Under EU rules fishermen are supposed to throw fish they catch above their quota back into the sea.
Mr Mahon faces a fine of up to £50,000 if he is prosecuted for breaching his licence by not throwing back fish. Mr Mahon said: “I’m worried obviously about being prosecuted over this but I’m so angry.
“I feel betrayed by my own politicians.
“In this country we have the richest fishing grounds in the world around our coast, yet we have an industry on the verge of collapse.”
Jim Portus, from the South West Fish Producers’ Organisation, said that, although Mr Mahon is not a member of his organisation, he had “every sympathy” with his stance.
The fishing quota was a “bone of contention with everybody”, he said. (BBC)
