Lo SDLP ha tradito le piccole società sportive
Il consigliere per l’area Est della Contea di Derry del Provisional Sinn Féin, Cathal Ó hOisín, ha riferito di essere rimasto scioccato e sorpreso dalla decisione del Social Democratic and Labour Party (sia il PSF che lo SDLP rappresentano -o dovrebbero rappresentare- la maggioranza del corpo elettorale irlandese nazionalista moderato) di allinearsi alla decisione dell’insieme dei partiti unionisti di negare ad un gruppo di club sportivi locali una minima assistenza tecnica, e si domanda quali implicazioni ciò potrebbe avere per gli eventi e le altre associazioni.
“Vorrei sfidare lo SDLP a spiegare ai contribuenti della zona di Benbradagh i motivi per i quali cercheranno con una norma di portare avanti gli anni di discriminazione.”, ha detto Cathal Ó hOisín.
“Invece di promuovere ed incoraggiare questi volontari e le associazioni della comunità, alcuni consiglieri ed alcuni consulenti del consiglio sembrano suggerire che questo sarebbe uno sforzo insostenibile per le risorse comunali, quando martedì notte eravamo di fronte ad un vero e proprio esercito di consulenti che gravano sulle tasche dei contribuenti”.
“Il Consiglio ha un dovere statutario di provvedere alle attrezzature sportive -cosa in cui è venuto meno nel corso degli anni e la decisione di martedì notte sembra andare nella stessa direzione. La gente con cui ho parlato sta chiedendo di conoscere i motivi per i quali sei consiglieri unionisti e tre dell’SDLp hanno votato in quella maniera”.
SDLP denies a number of local sporting clubs minor technical assistance
Sinn Féin East Derry Councillor Cathal Ó hOisín said he was shocked and surprised by the SDLP decision to align themselves with the Unionist bloc to deny a number of local sporting clubs minor technical assistance and wondered what implications this would have for other organisations and events.
Cllr Ó hOisín said:
“I would challenge the SDLP to justify to the rate payers in the Benbradagh ward why they would seek to perpetuate the years of discrimination in provision in this area.
“Instead of fostering and encouraging these voluntary and community organisations some Councillors and council officers seem to suggest that this would put an unbearable strain on resources yet on Tuesday night we faced a veritable phalanx of the same officers at what cost to the ratepayer.
“Council has a statutory duty to provide sporting facilities – a matter in which it has singularly failed down through the years and Tuesday night’s decision would seem to prolong this. People whom I’ve talked to are demanding to know why the six unionist and three SDLP representatives voted as they did.” (SF News)
